Thing #25, Part 3

This was a fun and functional Thing. I really like Satellite view but I had already discovered it. It was fun to see how close to Carhenge some of the markers were and how off the others were. I had tracked down Carhenge when I went "out west" in 1994 (before I met my husband). I found directions in the McDonald's and back tracked out there. (This was after the highway was moved.) I also gave my husband 3 chances to see Carhenge for himself when we came back from the Black Hills in 2006.

I have done a preliminary map of our upcoming Yellowstone Trip. I will update it after we are back. There won't be any personal photos. This was what stymied me with Flickr in the original NE Learns 2.0 (Things #8-10). We don't have a home computer with internet or a working camera to download to the internet. I am lucky to be able to use work computers on my own time.

I didn't claim my library because I am not the director. I also do not work on the website, so I could not embed a map on our website. I will probably try to suggest helping with this after her vacation (which is after mine). Maybe Pam will have some more map ideas that I can help her with.

May update:
One of my Google alerts hit paydirt.

Melinda's father was born and lived through his junior high years here. She even took 2 passing pictures of the library (on the west side). Also Image 16 of the miscellaneous buildings is a shot of the front (south) windows.

Thing #25, Part 2

Our library popped up first thing with just the address. The marker was on the house just to the north, so I did get the marker edited to the front entry, ultilizing Satellite view on the closest I could get. It has the correct name, address, phone number and clickable web address (URL listed?). I can tell that the Satellite has not been updated recently because the addition to the Court House nearby is not there yet.

I moved my home address to the front door also.

Thing #25 Part 1

I love maps. I navigate fairly well until we are right there. Just Wednesday, we went to North Platte and my husband had a map to a restaurant and I didn't tell him to turn fast enough to get into the parking lot. Luckily it had a second entrance/exit.

The first address that we were to look up is the Nebraska Capitol Building. I could see the colors on the cars in the parking lot across the street. The colors were not very bright but the grass was green also, and the leaves on the trees were all out and green too.

Mostly I navigate from street maps, but I love to see the Satellite view when looking at the internet. We have been planning a trip to Yellowstone for almost 2 years and I was looking at Interstate 90 north of Sheridan WY on Satellite view and saw the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument Visitors Center literally just off an exit. It was in the 1001 Historic Sites You Must See Before You Die, so I talked him into putting it onto the itinerary, since we will be passing about the time it opens in the morning.

I finally took the opportunity to use the patron internet to "drive" the Street View. When I tried at one of our staff computers, it didn't have enough get up and go. I saw the Eiffel Tower from several blocks away and looked for Kangaroos but didn't find them.
